We reproduce a chapter from Jean Huteau and Bernard Ullmann's history of AFP, explaining how the current statutes were adopted unanimously by the French parliament, and with strong support from staff, in 1956. A far cry from the current situation, in which radical changes are being proposed in the teeth of strong opposition.
